Cowan Commercial Club

Cowan Commercial Club (a.k.a. Cowan Commercial & Community Club) is a civic organization by and for the people of Cowan.

Founded in the Year 1922, Cowan Commercial Club is not only one of the oldest civic organizations in the State of Tennessee, it is also intertwined with the history and development of the City of Cowan.

The purpose of Cowan Commercial Club is best described in Article II, Section 2 of the organization's by-laws, which says: "To contribute in the civic, commercial, educational, health, recreational and any other projects for the general welfare of the citizens of Cowan and the surrounding area."

Some of the projects that Commercial Club oversees include the following:

  • The Cowan Connection tourist brochures that promote the businesses and attractions of the Cowan community;
  • The Visit Cowan website that promotes tourism and economic growth in the community;
  • The seasonal Work Day in the Park whereby citizens help clean-up and spruce up the downtown railroad park, which is one of Cowan's finest assets;
  • Commercial Club also sponsors an annual 4-H Camp Scholarship and helps keep the Christmas decorations in good repair.  Additionally, Commercial Club has formed meaningful parterships with local churches, Cowan Railroad Museum, Cowan Development Company, the Cowan Street Department, and Cowan Branch Library in various projects through the years.
