June 22-July 21:  58th Annual Sewanee Summer Music Festival.  One of the country's oldest and most acclaimed musical institutes is right here on the Mountain!  Over 150 aspiring young musicians will join up with instructors, performers and guests for high caliber musical training.  Go to www.sewaneemusicfestival.org for a full concert schedule and ticketing information.  Note that a free concert will be offered at Cowan Center for the Arts on Tuesday, July 9th at 7:00 p.m.

June 30:  Civil War Commemoration in Downtown Cowan.  Join us for a community-wide recognition of the 150th Anniversary of Union and Confederate troop occupation in the greater Sewanee area.  The Cowan event begins at 1:00 p.m. in the railroad park at the depot with an opening ceremony, music, and remarks by local historians.  The program will include a special reference to a famous confrontation that took place in Cowan between a local resident and General Nathan Bedford Forrest.  A Civil War trail marker will also be installed in the railroad park.
