Recreation in Cowan
Boiling Fork Creek & Park
Enjoy the shady, cool beauty of one of Cowan's most prominent landmarks. Boiling Fork Creek flows from the mountains above Cowan through the middle of town on its way to the Elk River. It was a major thoroughfare for Cowan's pioneer families, and has long been a major water supply for the community. Today, visitors and residents have the added enjoyment of a park and playground located beside the creek on Jackson Street on the west side of town. Picnic tables, charcoal grills, playground equipment, and plenty of shade trees are all provided for your enjoyment. The park and playground were built by the City of Cowan in partnership with state agencies proving matching grant money. Please do your part in helping us keep the area clean and neat.
